Bombas

I give Bombas a perfect 5.0/5 rating. See the chart and other ratings here.

Bombas are my benchmark for what a sock can be. I own a variety of styles and materials so that I can use them in any/all situations. I am in love with nearly every aspect of the Bombas I’ve owned which is why I give Bombas a perfect score. I realize I’m saying I’ve loved nearly every aspect but am still giving a perfect rating. Though I love nearly every aspect, the reason for a perfect score is simple: I would just use one of the perfect styles instead of the ones that I would rate lower.

By cut I have at least one pair of each of the following types of Bombas:

No show

  • Lightweight (thin)

Ankle

  • Original/Classic/Solids (the regular ones)
  • Running performance
  • Grippers

Quarter

  • Hiking
  • Merino wool
  • Running performance

Calf

  • Merino wool
  • Classic

Over the calf

  • Dress

Pros

Bombas socks are well constructed with every style featuring honeycomb woven arch support and a toe seam that defies logic as an oxymoron: the toe seam is forgettable due to how little you’ll ever feel it and yet, due to how forgettable it is, you’ll never forget how amazing it is that you don’t feel it. The blister tab on the ankle socks is a perfect height. They hold up to abuse and I have some pairs that are still comfy to wear after 2+ years. The materials vary depending on the design but are very neutral to the touch – wearing Bombas just feels natural. My feet tend to sweat a lot and I never feel like I’m sweating when I wear any style of Bombas which makes it easy to forget that I have any socks on at all. The designs vary for every style of socks so it’s easy to find awesome colors/patterns to love.

Based on the comfort and materials I feel like I could go multiple days in the same pair of socks if I had to (not that I do). I’ve used the wool socks on hiking trips in both warm and cold conditions and the socks have either kept me cool or warm, while also  dry. The running performance socks have been my go to for long distance running and cycling and keep my feet happy for many hours on end (they were my sock of choice for my Ironman).

Cons

While the dress socks do a great job of staying up, they irritate my leg hair. In fairness to Bombas, most socks above the quarter cut irritate my leg hair (except for the classic and merino wool calf socks I wear).

The hiking socks took a little bit longer to get used to due to what felt like a slightly tighter arch support. It gave some discomfort at first but once I ‘broke them in’ they’ve joined the ranks of my other Bombas.

The lightweight no show socks aren’t as comfy and don’t hold up to the same daily abuse as the other Bombas. They are too thin to do anything for the feeling of sweaty feet and I only wear mine for rock climbing.

Summary

Bombas are amazing. The price tag is steeper than other socks but the company stands for positive change in the world, donating a pair of socks to a homeless shelter for every pair you buy. This is an easy cause to get behind. If you are a first time buyer you get a sizable discount (use my referral link to make me extra happy!) and can find more discounts over other times of the year (I think I remember a good sale around Easter one year?).

I used to own over 100 pairs of socks before I stumbled upon a Bombas ad over 3 years ago. I tried a few pairs and couldn’t turn back, getting rid of all the other socks I owned, trimming down to a few handfuls of Bombas.

I could go on saying so many more positive things about the socks but the fact is that they are amazing socks that make me exceptionally comfortable and happy. I only struggle to choose which pair to wear each day.
